Greening the Saturn Campus PDF Print E-mail

Please join us for the Saturn Master Plan Community Planning Sessions:

Tuesday, July 28, 6:30 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.
Tuesday, August 25, 6:30 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.

All Saturn students, parents, teachers, administrators, and neighbors are welcome to brainstorm ideas for a campus transformation!

The Rings of Saturn are sponsoring the development of a Master Plan to transform the Saturn campus into a park-like setting open to the community during non-school hours.  The vision is inspired by the Trust for Public Land/People for Park's 'Community School Park' concept, which has been unanimously endorsed by the LAUSD School Board and L.A. City Council.  Read more.

AIA Associate Rogerio Carvalheiro of RC Design Federation has generously agreed to work pro bono to develop the Plan, guided by an Advisory Committee with expertise in school gardens and playscapes, but we need your help!

What does a park look like? Please bring a photo of what a park looks like to you.  It may be a photo of gardens, playground equipment, a soccer field, or whatever else appeals to you!

Some Say NO to Treeguards PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 01 July 2009 07:16

Stakeholders take up a petition to weigh public opinion on treeguard project.

Councilman Wesson's office is proposing the installation of treeguards along Pico Boulevard between Fairfax & La Brea.Treeguard installed on Washington

Similar treeguards were recently installed along Washington Boulevard and the surrounding community is very unhappy with them because they have become magnets for graffiti.

The group responsible for taking up the petition says, "We applaud Councilman Wesson's interest in beautification efforts for Pico, but we believe funding should be allocated to more beneficial projects such as repair of curbs and sidewalks, replacement of dead or non-thriving street trees (sycamores and golden crown), installation of landscaped medians, etc."

If you would like to sign the petition opposing the installation of treeguards, follow the link:
